Does Green Cup Design only work with Small Businesses?
We focus on small businesses because we believe that they are the backbone of our economy, and by doing so we support a market inclusive of unique enterprises. We understand that businesses come in many shapes and sizes, including startups, and we are happy to serve them all.
As a Nonprofit Organization, why should I choose GreenCup?
Veronica started her career in Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Aid. After two years working for an aid organization funded by the Federal Government, Veronica returned to West Michigan to start her own 501(c)3 nonprofit. Since then she has started several small businesses and startups, but it is the nonprofit world that has her heart. Thus, GreenCup continues to be on the cutting edge of Nonprofit website trends and has benefited several organizations with websites that not only take in donations, but generate revenue.
As a Small Business, why should I choose GreenCup?
We love Small Businesses. They serve their community and keep it strong. To that end, we make it a priority to research and stay in touch with the small business community, both in Grand Rapids and nationally. We are members of Local First, and regularly attend their events to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best advice. We also participate in GiveCamp and Weekend Blitz every year, both as a sponsor and participant. Finally, our founding team has a diverse background outside of design, including the nonprofit, government, and startup sectors, giving us a first-hand view of your needs.
What should I expect when working with GreenCup?
That depends on the service you choose. Generally, your experience will start with a Client Brief to get us familiar with your work and your preferences. From there we’ll meet for a free consultation and discuss the information you’ve provided. We may create preliminary sketches for you (if we’re doing something visual) to ensure we’ve understood your goals and you like our style before we sign the contract and exchange a downpayment. During the project, we try to always be transparent and easy to get a hold of should you have questions as we go along. Finally, upon delivery, we offer our clients the opportunity to be interviewed for our blog, giving further exposure to your business.
Do you offer a nonprofit discount?
We sure do! Veronica’s first business was a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We have a special appreciation for what it takes and all that nonprofits do. We offer a 10% discount to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations for website design, graphic design, social media advertising, and ongoing website maintenance.
Do I have to pay for the consultation?
Nope! We understand that you may be looking for a fit of personality and services during our first meeting, so we choose not to charge for it. Subsequent fact-finding meetings are billed hourly.
While we have skills to support Drupal and SquareSpace, we made a strategic choice to focus on WordPress development for two reasons. 1) It is an easy platform on which to develop small to mid-sized small business websites, making our work quick and efficient, thus saving our client’s money. 2) WordPress is easy to teach and easy to learn; as many of our clients are first-time website users, this is essential. Overall, WordPress is great for SEO customization and plays well with Google, giving a good deal of visibility and power to a new website. It is updated frequently against security threats and for latest code standards, and it’s one of the most widely used platforms available today.
I’m not tech savvy - can I still manage a website?
We offer a one-on-one tutorial with every website we build. We will do our best to teach you how to use your new website, and provide you with resources to use the site afterward. If you prefer not to manage the site yourself, you can choose from one of our Monthly Maintenance Packages to maintain updates and security. Finally, while we prefer WordPress, we will choose the best platform to build your website for your needs and skill level.
We also recommend finding an advocate to help translate some of the information we will exchange during our time together so you never feel left in the dark. We always do our best to explain everything in lay-man’s terms.
What is a website, anyway? Why do I need one?
A website is a digital representation of your business that gives it an online presence. While we live in a physical world, our information and socializing increasingly comes from the internet, and websites have become the #1 way a potential customer vets your company. By giving your business an online presence, it not only enters you into that world of connectivity, it validates your business as something worth that presence, and offers you the chance to begin customer relationships before they ever contact you. Just as having a network of happy customers gives your business an image of longevity and transparency, so does a website reassure potential customers.
How do I know you won’t leave me hanging?
It’s a shame we get asked this so often. Not only does this mean designers / developers are abandoning clients way too often, it’s hurting our industry’s reputation and ultimately hurting the small business world. If Small Businesses make up 99.7% of the economy, they should only be supported.
I see my business as a commitment to offering access to good website design, identity development, and online support to other small businesses. Not only would it hurt my business to leave you before you’re satisfied, it would go directly against my goals. My staff believes in this mission, and together we offer you our best.
